This enormous and beautiful structure or memorial was dedicated to U.S. brave soldiers who fight for their country, to remember the fallen from the skies. This awesome memorial is located in Arlington, Virginia in Fort Myer’s grounds very near from the Pentagon and the National Cemetery. This memorial is too respectable because it honors millions of men and women who served to the US Air Force and will be still our heroes and those who fallen will be remembered.
Structure
This wonderful memorial was design by this creative architecture called James Ingo Freed. He thought of making these 3 bronze, curved pillars facing each other symbolizing the contrails of the Thunderbirds (US Air Jet planes.) He made them curved because he wanted to represent when the Thunderbirds were doing their maneuver called bomb burst, which was a traditional maneuver for the US Air Force. Back then, that’s why James Ingo brought the idea. If you imagine it, its 3 Thunderbirds doing a long and smooth back flip creating a fantastic maneuver. The Star which is beneath the columns or pillars is all made out of granite. The 3 spires are made mainly with 84 meters tall of stainless steel, but its base is made with concrete also. They have two amazing walls which say about the fallen. Both are made out of black granite, well-polished, and are 17 meters high. The wall on the north shares the ones with Medal of Honor and the one on the south shares this important quotes regarding moral codes to them: integrity first, service before self and excellence in all we do". In my opinion, this memorial it seems the same because it’s very well cared and concerned. Was it a challenge? Obviously, because they took 15 years to make this land into a splendid and unforgettable memorial. I guess the type of structure will be a modern one because it was dedicated in October 14, 2006. This memorial compared to the others, I say this is excellent, but for me I can’t explain how these memorials are so delightful, and they take my words from me.
As I said before, this memorial honors the brave soldiers who fought in severe and bloody wars on during the 20th century: Vietnam War, World War 1 and 2. And honor our survivors which still serve to the US Air Force.
When I see this remarkable memorial, I can’t take my eyes of them because it is very sensitive. I mean, it does make you feel sorry and thankful for the men who fought for their freedom. As US will say: “Freedom is not free” my favorite quote. I say this because it tells everything these men and women were fighting for. Freedom will never be free; you have to fight for it, pay, or even sacrifice for others. An overwhelming and inspiring memorial, we will never forget you, brave soldiers.
This memorial was built to honor every single men and women that have participated on the air force or any of it organizations. It was built in the capital because back then, about 20 years ago, there was a memorial for many of the branches of the army and organizations except for the air force. I think the air force needed a memorial for sure because the men and women it involves had demonstrated their bravery and dedication to their nation.
In 1992, the US Air Force Memorial was decided it was going to be done. In 1993 president Clinton decided to make it real. The structure of the air force memorial is very simple. It has three bended branches, each one to opposite sides. This represents a common maneuver from the air force. The spires are 270 feet high, but they seem smaller because they are blended. The memorial was finally dedicated on October 2006. More than 30 thousand people went to assist the final inauguration. I think this structure is very important because the army is one of the branches that I believe must have more recognition of them all. The army provides security and they sacrifice their lives day by day doing labors they can only do. I f you go back many many years, each of the soldiers killed, wounded, sick, were in that status because they gave it all to protect the nation. That’s why I believe this monument is worth it.
We only saw thin building from far. It would have been an awesome experience to see this huge stain less steel master pieces. I believe it would have been great because, as I already said, the army is one of the branches I believe must have much recognition because of their bravery. Cooper, Rachel.
